Advancing Dermatopathology Through Research and Collaboration

Oculus Pathology’s Dr. Mario Saab-Chalhoub to Present at the American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP)

At Oculus Pathology, our commitment to excellence goes beyond the microscope. Our specialty and sub-specialty pathologists not only deliver clinically precise diagnoses in partnership with dermatologists and other specialists — they also help advance the field of pathology through active research, education, and national collaboration.

This fall, Dr. Mario W. Saab-Chalhoub, board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Dermatopathology, and Cytopathology, will present at the American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP) annual meeting. His presentation highlights complex, diagnostically challenging dermatopathology cases that deepen understanding of rare conditions and reinforce the critical role of specialty pathology partnership in clinical care.

Dr. Saab-Chalhoub’s recent academic contributions include collaborative case studies such as:

  • Atypical Mycobacterium haemophilum Infection Mimicking Leprosy with Nerve-Centered Necrotizing Granulomas, which explores how this rare infection can clinically and histologically resemble leprosy — emphasizing the importance of molecular testing for accurate diagnosis.
  • Nodal T Follicular Helper Cell Lymphoma Mimicking Severe Contact Dermatitis With Eosinophilia, which examines how systemic lymphoma can present with misleading cutaneous findings, underscoring the diagnostic precision required in dermatopathology.

Through research like this, Dr. Saab-Chalhoub and his Oculus Pathology colleagues bridge the gap between clinical presentation and histopathologic reality — transforming complex findings into insights that inform better patient outcomes.

“Our work doesn’t stop at diagnosis,” said Matt Thompson, CEO, Oculus Pathology. “Each case our pathologists take on is an opportunity to learn, teach, and advance the understanding of disease. That’s how we continue to improve patient care and strengthen our partnerships with clinicians.”

Dr. Saab-Chalhoub’s presentation at ASDP reflects Oculus Pathology’s broader mission: delivering diagnostic excellence rooted in collaboration, curiosity, and continual advancement of the field of pathology.
