Craig J. Peterson, M.D.: A Career Built on Diagnostic Depth

In pathology, experience matters. So does consistency, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex cases with precision. At Oculus Pathology, those qualities are reflected in the work of Craig J. Peterson, M.D., a longtime pathologist whose decades of service have helped strengthen diagnostic quality across the practice.

Dr. Peterson joined Oculus Pathology in 1996 and is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He serves primarily at Round Rock Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas and holds medical directorships for the Round Rock Medical Center Laboratory and the Oculus Pathology Corporate Office. He has also served as Secretary of the Board’s Executive Committee since 2022.

His professional background reflects the depth of his diagnostic approach. Dr. Peterson completed his medical degree, residency training in anatomic pathology/clinical pathology, and undergraduate education at the University of Minnesota, followed by fellowship training in Surgical Pathology and Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. His areas of interest include oral pathology and transplant pathology.

“Dr. Peterson represents the kind of experience and steady diagnostic leadership that has long been a strength of Oculus Pathology,” said Matt Thompson, CEO of Oculus Pathology. “His clinical judgment, consistency, and longstanding commitment to quality have made him a trusted resource within our practice and for the partners we serve.”

A Career Built on Diagnostic Depth

Pathology requires more than technical knowledge. It requires attention to detail, thoughtful interpretation, and the discipline to approach each case with care.

Over the course of nearly three decades with Oculus Pathology, Dr. Peterson has built a reputation for reliability and diagnostic rigor. His background in gastrointestinal and liver pathology, combined with broad experience across practice settings, reflects the kind of subspecialty depth that supports strong pathology services over time.

“Craig is a highly reliable diagnostic resource in an area of pathology where detail matters tremendously,” said colleague and pathologist Dr. Jennifer Blankenship. “He brings a thoughtful, measured approach to challenging cases and has earned the trust of colleagues and clinical teams through the quality of his work.”

The Strength Behind the Specialties

Our work at Oculus Pathology is backed by:

  • Board-certified subspecialty expertise
  • Strong experience in complex tissue interpretation
  • Direct collaboration with referring physicians and hospital teams
  • Consistent diagnostic quality across practice settings
  • A physician-owned model built around clinical partnership

Oculus Pathology has delivered anatomic and clinical pathology services since 1948. As a physician-owned and physician-led practice, Oculus Pathology remains focused on diagnostic quality, subspecialty depth, and meaningful collaboration with the clinicians it serves.

Behind every specimen is a patient, a care team, and a set of decisions that depend on getting the diagnosis right. Pathologists like Dr. Peterson help sustain that model through longstanding experience, medical leadership, and a clear commitment to high standards. His career reflects the kind of professional depth that continues to shape the quality and consistency of Oculus Pathology’s work today.
