During Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Oculus Pathology is highlighting the critical role dermatopathologists play in the diagnosis of skin cancer and other complex skin conditions.
Mario W. Saab-Chalhoub, M.D., brings specialized expertise in dermatopathology and cytopathology to Oculus Pathology. Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Dermatopathology, and Cytopathology, Dr. Saab-Chalhoub joined Oculus Pathology in 2025 and supports clinicians with accurate, timely diagnostic insight across a wide range of skin lesions and challenging dermatologic cases.
“Skin cancer diagnosis demands experience, precision, and strong clinical partnership,” said Matt Thompson, CEO of Oculus Pathology. “Dr. Saab-Chalhoub brings exactly that to our team. His expertise strengthens the level of diagnostic support we provide to dermatologists and other clinicians across Texas.”
In skin cancer care, pathology is central to identifying malignancy, distinguishing subtle histologic differences, and helping ensure patients move forward with the right treatment plan. Diagnosing melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies requires deep subspecialty knowledge, strong clinicopathologic correlation, and careful attention to detail.
Dr. Saab-Chalhoub’s training reflects that depth. He completed fellowships in dermatopathology at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, and cytopathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His residency training included Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, and the American University of Beirut Medical Center in Beirut, Lebanon. He earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut Medical School.
His work also reflects a broader commitment to advancing the field. In addition to supporting clinicians through daily diagnostic practice, Dr. Saab-Chalhoub contributes to research and academic collaboration that help expand understanding of diagnostically challenging dermatopathology cases.
Colleague Dr. Susan Baer added, “Dr. Saab brings a high level of thoughtfulness and precision to every case. In dermatopathology, where subtle findings can have major implications, deep expertise matters. He is committed to diagnostic accuracy and to being a strong partner to the clinicians he supports.”
This Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Oculus Pathology is proud to recognize Dr. Saab-Chalhoub and the important work dermatopathologists do every day to support earlier answers, more informed treatment decisions, and better patient care.
