The installation of Jennifer Rushton, M.D., as president of the Bexar County Medical Society earlier this year, reflects the level of clinical expertise and physician leadership that defines Oculus Pathology. Dr. Rushton’s selection places an Oculus Pathology physician at the helm of one of Texas’ most influential medical societies.
Dr. Rushton’s appointment underscores the depth of expertise, professionalism, and physician leadership that defines Oculus Pathology. As a practicing pathologist and long-time physician advocate, she represents the values the group brings to every hospital, clinic, and physician practice it serves: clinical excellence, accountability, and a commitment to advancing patient care beyond the microscope.
In conjunction with her installation, Dr. Rushton was featured in the January 2026 issue of San Antonio Medicine, where she authored the President’s Message, “Empowering Physicians, Defending Medicine, Building Healthier Communities.” In the article, she outlines a physician-first agenda focused on advocacy, collaboration, and strengthening trust in medicine, priorities that closely mirror Oculus Pathology’s mission and day-to-day practice.
Dr. Rushton’s leadership philosophy is grounded in real-world clinical experience. Her work emphasizes continuity of care, informed decision-making, and the importance of physicians remaining active voices in healthcare policy and community health conversations.
Her election to lead BCMS highlights a broader truth about Oculus Pathology: its physicians are not only highly skilled subspecialists but also respected leaders shaping the future of medicine locally and statewide. From medical directorships to professional society leadership, Oculus pathologists consistently step forward to serve patients, colleagues, and communities.
Dr. Rushton is triple board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, molecular genetic pathology, and hematopathology. She joined Oculus Pathology in 2010 and serves as the Medical Director of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine for Baptist Health System in San Antonio.
Dr. Rushton’s installation marks a moment of pride for Oculus Pathology and reinforces the group’s longstanding reputation as a home for physician leaders committed to excellence in medicine.
