St. David’s Round Rock Laboratory Recognized as an ASCP Leading Laboratory

A Reflection of Strong Leadership, Partnership, and the Values that Define Oculus Pathology

The pathology laboratory at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center in Central Texas has been recognized by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Leading Laboratory, a national distinction honoring laboratories that demonstrate sustained operational excellence, innovation, and high-performance standards in patient care.

This recognition reflects the leadership of Craig J. Peterson, M.D., Oculus Pathology physician and medical director of the Round Rock Medical Center Laboratory, the dedication of the laboratory team, and the strength of Oculus Pathology’s long-standing partnership with the hospital.

Leadership That Sets the Standard

Dr. Peterson has been part of Oculus Pathology since 1996 and currently serves as Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, bringing nearly three decades of experience to his leadership role. Board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Peterson completed fellowships in surgical pathology and gastrointestinal and liver pathology at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he also completed his residency and medical training.

As medical director, Dr. Peterson oversees laboratory operations at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center. His subspecialty expertise in gastrointestinal and head and neck pathology, along with his clinical interests in transplant and oral pathology, inform a leadership approach grounded in diagnostic precision, collaboration, and accountability.

Under Dr. Peterson’s direction, St. David’s Round Rock Laboratory has earned a reputation for dependability: fast turnaround times, consistently available expertise, and a seamless working relationship with clinical teams across the hospital. At a time when laboratories nationwide face staffing pressures and rising case complexity, the Round Rock team stands out for its ability to deliver prompt, comprehensive service without compromising accuracy. Their work embodies our shared belief that partnership and collaboration are key to patient care excellence.

This ASCP recognition is a testament to what strong laboratory leadership and true partnership can accomplish,” said Matt Thompson, CEO, Oculus Pathology. “Dr. Peterson and the St. David’s Round Rock team exemplify our values of service, quality, and integrity every day.”

Congratulations to Dr. Peterson and the entire St. David’s Round Rock Laboratory team!
